After growing up in Brussels, Nelson discovered psytrance in 1993 while in his native Portugal. Through Portuguese trance parties and extensive travel, Nelson was exposed to many styles of trance. In 1998, Nelson began to DJ darker-style psychedelic trance as DJ Nel-sun. “I started to collect music from some artists to make a set of only night music. Nowadays, there are many DJs playing this way, but when I started, it was hard to find enough material to create a full set.”
Since moving back to Belgium in 2000, Nelson continues to DJ. In 2002, he founded Mystical Druids Society (party promotion) and still organizes occasional free parties whenever possible. In 2004, Nelson played his first live set, and in 2005 he joined Trishula Records.
Highlights of 2006 thus far include playing at Trishula’s “Mechanophobia” release party in Leeuwarden, NL (DJ, Nel-sun), Crossroads of Humanity in Antwerp (DJ Nel-sun / Live, M.D.S.) and Freaky Dragons Festival in Spain (Live, M.D.S.).
Expect what he refers to as “essence of psy” DJ sets, with music from Sweden, Denmark, Russia and Finland. Nelson describes his own style of music as “energetic, night, psychedelic, music as much for the brain as the body.”
His debut album will be released in November 2007.
